Certification in just a few, easy steps!

Who is Eligible:

To be eligible for certification, the applicant must be registered/credentialed with the governing bodies listed below and hold a minimum of a master’s degree in their profession.

Provisional, qualified or student registration does not meet the standards for C-DBT certification.

By applying for certification, the applicant agrees to adhere to Evergreen Certifications’ Professional Code of Ethics

Training Requirements:

A minimum of 21 hours of CPD with 18 of those hours specific to Dialectical Behavior Therapy topics and 3 of those hours specific to suicide and risk assessment.

Complete Required Reading:

Complete Clinical Hours:

The applicant must attest that, over the course of their career, they have conducted a minimum of 500 therapy hours using Dialectical Behavior Therapy as a theoretical orientation.

Application Process:

For your initial 2-year certification, please complete the following steps.

  1. Complete a qualifying training
  2. Remit your initial application payment of 249.99 USD online
  3. Upload the following documents to your account:
    • A copy of the candidate’s professional registration 
    • Evidence of completion of qualifying training, in the form of a completion certificate
    • A completed C-DBT application form

Evergreen Certifications will certify applicants who meet the above requirements.

Please note: Certification does not imply endorsement of clinical competency. As a registered/credentialed professional, you are responsible for reviewing the scope of practice, including activities that are defined in law as beyond the boundaries of practice in accordance with and in compliance with your profession’s standards.

Renewal Process:

To maintain DBT certification, a renewal is required after your initial 2-year certification. A 2-year renewal requires 12 clock hours of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Suicide Risk Assessment/Intervention, Crisis Intervention, Personality Disorders, Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation and/or Behavioral Analysis-focused continuing education since you were last certified.

Renewal Process

  1. Complete a qualifying training
  2. Upload the following documents to your account:
    • A copy of the candidate’s professional registration
    • Evidence of completion of qualifying training, in the form of a completion certificate
  3. Remit your C-DBT renewal fee of 149.99 USD online

Renewal training hours need to have been taken in the time since you were certified or last recertified.

Renewals are calculated from the date that your certification was issued. If you allow your certification to lapse for more than 2 years, you are no longer eligible to renew your certification and instead can reapply for certification

A real-world practitioner, Dr. Pederson co-owns Mental Health Systems, PC (MHS), one of the largest DBT-specialized practices in the United States with four clinic locations in Minnesota (www.mhs-dbt.com). At MHS Dr. Pederson has developed Dialectical Behavior Therapy programs for adolescents, adults, people with dual disorders, and people with developmental disabilities. He has served as clinical and training directors, has directed practice-based clinical outcome studies, and has overseen the care of thousands of clients in need of intensive outpatient services.

Dr. Pederson’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy publications include: The Expanded Dialectical Behavior therapy Skills Training Manual, 2nd Edition (PPM, 2017); Dialectical Behavior Therapy: A Contemporary Guide for Practitioners (Wiley, 2015); and Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training in Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment Settings (PPM, 2013).
